Story of the Good Hunter
Narrated Audio:
“Once, there was Good Hunter who treated the animals with respect. The hunter was attacked by an enemy and left for dead. All of the birds, animals and turtles gathered to revive the hunter. The bear placed his wide paw over the hunter’s heart to keep it warm. The wolf licked the wound to cleanse it. The hummingbird retrieved the Hunter’s scalp, and it was placed back on the hunter’s head. All of the creatures contributed a small part of their flesh to make a medicine to allow the hunter to recover. Over his body they also sang special songs that had the power to aid in his resuscitation.”
“The story reminds us that even though the hunter was harvesting game, we should do so in the most efficient way and not let them suffer. In taking their life, we have an obligation not to waste any part of their carcass. The Good Hunter always left some of his catch behind so that the other animals could share his harvest. This is an ideal model of how we should interact with animals, birds and fish life.”
