Hayę́hwataˀ then helped the Chiefs weave the sacred wampum belts that record the narrative of the formation of the Confederacy and the legal protocols to be followed in the future. It took many years, but together, the Peacemaker, Hayę́hwataˀ and Tododaho made the Great Law of Peace a workable model for building and maintaining peace.
Tododaho was given the special responsibility to call for, and conduct, the Grand Councils of all the Chiefs and Clan Mothers in the territory of the Onondaga Nation, where he planted the Great Tree of Peace. This is why our Grand Councils are held there.
