Garoga Village site

Narrated text:

“This drawing show the layout of the 16th century Mohawk village of Garoga, also known as Castle Hill. Nine longhouses were arranged across the flat top of the hill. The curving outlines show the steep elevations that protected the village on the northern, eastern and southern sides, with a short, double palisades to the narrow western entrance.  It is estimated that about 700 people lived here from 1550 to1582. Imagine the labor and organization needed to erect such a village.”
