Clans helped one another. Each community is divided into clan moieties. For social, cultural, ceremonial and political purposes, one set of Clans serves the needs of the opposite set of Clans.
This Clan system was especially helpful when traveling from nation to nation as people would search out members of their same Clan who would then provide food and shelter for them as part of their family.
