Friedrich Engels in seeking a non-capitalistic model, found inspiration in the Haudenosaunee way of life. What he saw challenged everything Europe believed about political power, private property and gender equality.
Engles admired our communal society, where people shared the labor and the benefits of that labor equally. He also noted that the Haudenosaunee did not have police, prisons or violence against women.
Engels concluded that being more democratic, more egalitarian and lesspatriarchal was formula for the future state.
