What is a culture of gratitude?

Haudenosaunee have a culture of gratitude. Our culture is deeply rooted in, and reflective of, the land. Therefore, we have an obligation to show our gratitude for what the land provides us. Whenever the Haudenosaunee gather, our meetings are started and ended with the Ohén:ton Karihwatéhkwen (‘Words Before All Others’, or Thanksgiving Address). This is done at every social, cultural, spiritual and political events.
